Clothing Requirements

We post out a Medical Project T-shirt to all students 3-4 weeks after the placement is confirmed. Students are asked to wear their Medical Projects T-shirts when they land at Bucharest Airport. This is to help us identify you on arrival and it also helps you meet other students at connecting airports.

Whilst on placement you will be required to dress in suitable clothing. For males this is usually smart trousers and a long sleeved shirt. For females this is usually a dress/skirt/trousers that fall below the knee and a smart top. Students are also required to take a set of scrubs and goggles. A set of Medical Projects scrubs can be purchased here:

Occupational Health Requirements

Students who travel to our European project will need to undergo a couple of important occupational health requirements. You can complete these tests with your GP before you travel. This will include a screening for Hep B & C and also a swab test for MRSA and EBSL. These are normally free from your NHS general practitioner. Please note, if you use a private healthcare provider they may charge between £50-£200.

Add an extra week?

We want to ensure every student gains the best possible experience when they join us. If you wish to add an additional week to your trip where you can experience an additional department or take part in our weekend trip, your personal student advisor can update your application! If you would like to take advantage of this please email Eleanor at: eleanor@medicalprojects.co.uk

Spending Money

We advise students to take between £60-80 per week they are with us. You can change money into Romanian Lei before you leave the UK, or alternatively bring your debit card with you to use in one of the ATMs when you arrive.

Health Declaration Form

Before you begin your trip we require a small amount of information about your current or past health conditions. This is so that we have all relevant information on hand just in case you need to see a doctor while you are away!

All students under the age of 18 must have their parent or guardian fill in this form. If you are aged 18 or over you can fill in the form yourself. Once completed please email the form to your Student Advisor at eleanor@medicalprojects.co.uk. You can also post it to us at Medical Projects, Clavering House, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 3NG.

Insurance

Finding the correct insurance for your trip is very important and we will not take students who are not suitably covered. Normal travel insurance will not cover you for your work experience within a hospital. We recommend using a company called Wesleyan.

Website: www.wesleyan.co.uk

Telephone: 0800 197 4490

We recommend calling the team and ensuring you receive the correct insurance package. You are more than welcome to source your own insurance as long as it covers your time within the hospital.

Visa Application

If you are travelling on an EU passport you will not require a visa for your placement. If you are travelling on any other passport you will need to get in touch with your local Romanian Embassy in order to apply for your visa. You will just require a tourist visa for your placement.

It is your responsibility to ensure your visa is completed correctly and returned to you in time for your trip.

Vaccinations

Students are advised to speak to their GP about the appropriate vaccinations before travelling. They will have your complete medical history and will be able to advise the most appropriate vaccinations.
